By Shannon Olson (My loving wife)

I would like to take a minute to tell you about myself and my friend, my husband Shawn. I started working in JcPenny’s in Southlake mall just before Christmas of 1989 and that is when me and Shawn first met. Short time later I asked him to go bowling with me and a friend that was Feb. 16th 1990 he always reminds me of the date, because he told me he was going to ask me out 2 days earlier (Valentines Day). Since it was a slow day I went home early, while he waited at the time clock for me. Two days later I came in to work and asked him he if he was busy later tonight because a friend and I were going bowling later.

Shawn agreed of course after a short time dating I asked him to goto my high school prom with me. We dated for the next 4 years before we were married . The night of our wedding rehearsal we were notified that we were approved for our first house. We found a house where Shawn grew up at in Valparaiso and we have been here together for 14 years now. Once we thought about moving but instead we decided to just remodel, not sure if you can actually call putting a whole 2nd floor remodeling. We worked all our evenings and weekends together making it happen, our families helped a lot with this huge adventure right along with us. Both our families help each other as much as they can, don’t think we would be were we are today without them.

Shawn has done many jobs to support his family like working for Valparaiso Street Dept. for several years when we were first married. Then one day he got the chance to work as an auto technician they were doing a apprenticeship, Shawn went against guys right from automotive school. He took the job and did better working on the cars than anyone at the dealership could imagine. He continued to work on cars for many years adding more and more certificates and degrees on just about any car on the road he is certified to work on. The more challenging of a problem the car has the more He enjoys figuring it out. It doesn’t matter how many computers or sensors they add to the car he can fix it!

Then little over 4 years ago Shawn got a chance to do what he seems to really enjoy remodeling. His brother Bryan is a designer in Chicago and after he and Shawn restored Bryan’s house, an 1880’s gray stone back to its original glory. Bryan wanted Shawn to do his more important jobs and all the final finish work on several of his projects. Shawn came to me about starting his own business of finish carpentry and remodeling. I think Shawn was more scared than I because he kept asking me what I thought about the new job adventure before he would agree to take on the new job and obligations. But I had total faith in him  since I knew he would always do his best and do what is right. Since I have known Shawn he has always been a caring, supportive and down to earth person who is willing to stand up for what he believes in and for what is right. Maybe its because we both been very fortunate to have wonderful supportive parents who have instilled in us moral values and raised us in a faith based environment.

That is one of the many reasons Shawn has decided to run for State Representative is to try to make things better for our daughters future. I’ve heard so many people say that their vote doesn’t count or why bother they are all crooked. But the real thing is if more people took action and stood up for what they believed in and we as a country wouldn’t be in such a mess. The time is now for others to take notice and get involved, if not for us but for our children our grand children. Just think what kind of future we are leaving them with  How are they going to endure the future hardships and the debt the politicians are putting on our backs. If you believe things are out of control now; just think how bad they will get if we stand by and do nothing.

I am asking for your support so together we can make a change of fiscal responsibility,
lower taxes and a smaller more efficient government.

Vote for my husband Shawn Olson for Indiana State Representative, then maybe you will know why I love him as much as I do!

Thank you for taking the time,
Shannon Olson

I have known Shawn Olson for the past 4 years.  As Shawn’s minister I have known him to be an honest man always willing to speak the truth.   He does not shy away from telling you what he believes but he also does it in a respectful manner.  Shawn has been a great asset to our church.  He is giving of his time and resources.  One time the water heater at our church was going bad and not only did Shawn donate a water heater but he also sacrificed personal time to install the water heater.  He has been willing to give of his time to assist others in our church with problems such as dry walling a room or helping to tear down a garage.  He has also been instrumental in helping people to work through problems.  In the past Shawn has taken the time to help heal rifts between people in the church.  I think one of the things I admire a lot about Shawn is that he is a problem solver.  Shawn has the unique ability to examine a problem, identify it, and then do what he is able to do in order to solve the problem.  He has always approached everything he has done in the church with humility and he has never been one to draw attention to himself.  He has been a good friend who is always willing to listen and he has a great sense of humor.  Finally, what I admire most about Shawn is his love for his family.

I believe that Shawn will place the same amount of care and action to fixing the problems in this state.
Shawn helps others not because he wants a photo op but rather because he cares.
Vote for Shawn Olson.

A few months ago, I started getting involved in local politics.  I had moved to Valparaiso a few years back to attend VU, but always saw myself returning home to Ohio when I finished my degree.  I got a job here, I decided to stay and I have been out of college for a year now.  With the decision to stay, I wanted to look into the local political scene.

I met Shawn Olson through an online group supporting Ron Paul and since our first meeting, Shawn and I have become good friends.  When I talk to him, he always has interesting news and intelligent opinions.  He keeps himself low-key, but he always has something to say and good reasons behind it.

Although I don’t always agree with everything Shawn talks about, he can give enough information behind his thoughts that I can’t help but consider it.  He’s very passionate about politics and he has been for many years.  He has volunteered for all sorts of candidates, putting out yard signs, working the election polls and fighting for the causes he believes in.

He has principled opposition to tax hikes and government waste, and isn’t afraid to say what can be cut.  For example, in the proposed South Shore Extension, he has more than a few ideas to cut costs down from $1 Billion so that the heavy tax burden doesn’t crush us in Northwest Indiana.  As the plans are today we would be wasting your tax money on politically connected developers to build next to the tracks!

Talk to Shawn if you get the chance!  He’s had so many interesting experiences in the political world that helped make him who he is.  He’s done many things including helping to organize a union in addition too painting billboards for worthy causes.

I am thrilled to have such an intelligent and well-spoken man running for the Indiana House.  He isn’t just another political hack.

He’s Shawn Olson!
